The ability to maintain  attention on a simple task is basic and important. The ability to control and maintain attention on a task when distracted may be extra important in certain jobs. Testing both aspect of attention is a relevant screening test of “fundamental” cognitive functioning.

Basic attention

  • To be attentive when someone else talks
  • Not miss anything that is going on

Attention control

  • To be able to concentrate when someone speaks also when other things are going on
  • Not to be distracted by unimportant events
  • To be able to disregard unimportant events
